Salmon Restoration
The Juan de Fuca Salmon Restoration Society serves the region from the Sooke Basin to the San Juan River Valley. There are over 12 creeks and rivers in this zone that stand to benefit from rehabilitating and restoring salmon habitat. Our first major project is the Charters Creek Salmon Habitat Restoration.
With the help of many generous partners, work has already been completed on the restoration of the spawning riffles in the lower reaches of the creek close to its confluence with the Sooke River. We are making great progress on the construction of an interpretation centre accessible from Sooke River Road, and stabilization the supply of water to Charters Creek spawning beds through the dry summer months, which will be accomplished by tapping into a CRD water main that runs through the area.
